Job answers Zophar by looking at the world instead of the theory. Suffer me, and I also will speak. Then mock on. 'Wherefore do the wicked live, become old, yea, wax mighty in power?' (21:7). Their houses are safe from fear, their children dance, they take the timbrel and harp; 'they spend their days in prosperity, and in a moment they go down to Sheol': the very men who say to God, Depart from us. How often is the lamp of the wicked actually put out? One dies in full strength, another in bitterness of soul, and they lie down alike in the dust. Your answers, he tells them, leave only falsehood.
