The reason; such as are objects of God's favor. be thy confidence--literally, "in thy confidence," in the source of thy strength (compare Na 3:9, for the same construction, Hebrew). Promptly fulfil all obligations both of justice and charity (compare Jas 2:15, 16).

“Then you will go on your way in safety” promises security in daily movement. “When you lie down, you will not be afraid” carries it into sleep. The ground of that security is the LORD's keeping: “the LORD will be your confidence and will keep your foot from the snare”.

Jamieson, Fausset & Brown read the Hebrew as the LORD standing in your confidence, the very source of your strength. The snare recalls the net of 1:17 that the greedy walked into. Here the LORD keeps the foot free.
