1. 2 Chronicles 20:17

   You need not fight this battle. Take up your positions, stand firm, and see the salvation of the LORD on your behalf, O Judah and Jerusalem. Do not be afraid or discouraged. Go out and face them tomorrow, for the LORD is with you.’”

2. 1 Timothy 6:12

   Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called when you made the good confession before many witnesses.

   “We fight the good fight by firm faith in the Lord our God—"This is the victory that overcomes the world, even your faith." That fight is the fight of faith, fought for the faith and by the faith. The article should be inserted and then the words are—"Fight the good fight of the faith." "Contend earnestly for the faith once delivered to the saints." "Hold fast the form of sound words." It is worth fighting for, even if we come to resistance unto blood!

   “Fight the good fight of faith - Not about words. Lay hold on eternal life - Just before thee. Thou hast confessed the good confession - Perhaps at his baptism: so likewise, ver. 13; but with a remarkable variation of the expression.

3. 2 Timothy 4:7

   I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.

   “I have fought a good fight - The Christian life is often represented as a conflict, or warfare; see the notes on 1Ti 6:12. That noble conflict with sin, the world, the flesh, and the devil, Paul now says he had been able to maintain. I have finished my course - The Christian life, too, is often represented as a “race” to be run; compare the notes at 1Co 9:24-26. I have kept the faith - I have steadfastly maintained the faith of the gospel; or, have lived a life of fidelity to my Master.

4. Hebrews 10:32

   Remember the early days that you were in the light. In those days, you endured a great conflict in the face of suffering.

   “But call to remembrance - It appears from this, and indeed from some parts of the Gospel history, that the first believers in Judea were greatly persecuted; our Lord’s crucifixion, Stephen’s martyrdom, the persecution that arose after the death of Stephen, Act 8:1, Herod’s persecution, Act 12:1, in which James was killed, and the various persecutions of St. Paul, sufficiently show that this disposition was predominant among that bad people. A great fight of afflictions - Πολλην αθλησιν παθηματων· A great combat or contention of sufferings.

5. Hebrews 11:34

   quenched the raging fire, and escaped the edge of the sword; who gained strength from weakness, became mighty in battle, and put foreign armies to flight.

   “Quenched the violence of fire - As in the case of the three faithful Hebrews, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego, who, for their steady attachment to God’s worship, were cast into a fiery furnace, in which they were preserved, and from which they escaped unhurt. Dan. 3. Escaped the edge of the sword - Moses, who escaped the sword of Pharaoh, Exo 18:4; Elijah, that of Jezebel; and David, that of Saul: and many others. Out of weakness were made strong - Were miraculously restored from sickness, which seemed to threaten their life; as Hezekiah, Isa 38:

   “Quenched the violence of fire-- (Da 3:27). Not merely "quenched the fire," but "quenched the power (so the Greek) of the fire." Da 3:19-30 and 6:12-23 record the last miracles of the Old Testament.
