'Strive thou, O Jehovah, with them that strive with me', the first great imprecatory psalm. Enemies dug pits without cause; David had worn sackcloth when they were sick, 'I behaved myself as though it had been my friend or my brother.' They repay evil for good, hating him without a cause: John 15:25 finds the phrase fulfilled in Christ. He calls the Judge to awake to his cause, and vows: 'my tongue shall talk of thy righteousness and of thy praise all the day long.'
