'A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches.' The rich and poor meet together; Jehovah is the maker of them all. 'Train up a child in the way he should go, and even when he is old he will not depart from it.' The borrower is servant to the lender. Rob not the poor because he is poor, 'for Jehovah will plead their cause.' At verse 17 the 'words of the wise' begin, thirty sayings with strong Egyptian-instruction parallels, opened honestly on the ANE study: 'Have not I written unto thee excellent things?'
