'But now they that are younger than I have me in derision' (30:1): sons of men whose fathers he would have disdained to set with the dogs of his flock. Now he is their song and their byword; they spit in his face. He turns to God: thou art turned to be cruel to me; 'I cry unto thee, and thou dost not answer me' (30:20). I know thou wilt bring me to death, to the house appointed for all living. His skin is black and falls from him, his bones burned with heat. 'My harp is turned to mourning, and my pipe into the voice of them that weep.'
