Job takes an oath, the hinge of his integrity. 'As God liveth, who hath taken away my right… my lips shall not speak unrighteousness, neither shall my tongue utter deceit. Far be it from me that I should justify you: till I die I will not put away mine integrity from me' (27:2-5). His heart shall not reproach him so long as he lives. Then he describes the portion of the wicked man with God, using his friends' own doctrine on his own terms: children multiplied for the sword, the silver he heaps as dust worn by the just, his house built like a moth's, terrors overtaking him like waters in the night.
