A.Baruch's Complaint: Woe Is Me Now, I Find No Restvv. 1-3
1 This is the word that Jeremiah the prophet spoke to Baruch son of Neriah when he wrote these words on a scroll at the dictation of Jeremiah in the fourth year of Jehoiakim son of Josiah, king of Judah: 2 “This is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says to you, Baruch: 3 You have said, ‘Woe is me because the LORD has added sorrow to my pain! I am worn out with groaning and have found no rest.’”
B.Seek Not Great Things for Thyself: Thy Life as a Prizevv. 4-5
4 Thus Jeremiah was to say to Baruch: “This is what the LORD says: Throughout the land I will demolish what I have built and uproot what I have planted. 5 But as for you, do you seek great things for yourself? Stop seeking! For I will bring disaster on every living creature, declares the LORD, but wherever you go, I will grant your life as a spoil of war.”

A short private word, dated back to the year Baruch wrote the first scroll, and placed here like a postscript to a scribe's whole career. Baruch had said, Woe is me now, for Jehovah hath added sorrow to my pain; I am weary with my groaning and find no rest. God answers first with his own grief (what I have built I am breaking down, what I have planted I am plucking up, this whole land) and then with a question that has steadied ambitious servants ever since: 'Seekest thou great things for thyself? seek them not.' Evil is coming upon all flesh; but in every place Baruch goes, his life will be given him for a prey.
