Then the oracle wheel begins, each rung with the same formula: 'For three transgressions of Damascus, yea, for four, I will not turn away the punishment thereof.' Damascus threshed Gilead with instruments of iron; Gaza carried away a whole people to sell to Edom; Tyre broke a brotherly covenant to do the same; Edom pursued his brother with the sword and cast off all pity; Ammon ripped up the women with child of Gilead to enlarge his border.
