Notice that Matthew has no doubt who is the person referred to in Isaiah 53, for he applies it to Jesus. Notice also that Matthew, who was a Jew and understood Hebrew, had no doubt that the application of those verses in Isaiah 53 is physical.

Jesus crucified is the door. Jesus resurrected is the shepherd. But if you want the resurrected Christ as your shepherd, you have to come by the crucified Christ, who is the door. Only those who come by the crucified Christ have the resurrected Christ as their shepherd.

Peter Derek Vaughan Prince (August 14, 1915 – September 24, 2003) was a British Bible teacher. Educated at Eton and King's College Cambridge in classical languages and philosophy (M.A.; Fellow of King's College, 1940), Prince served as a hospital orderly in the British Army during WWII, where he was converted in 1941 in a Pentecostal-influenced Baptist setting. He pastored in London until 1956, went to Kenya as a missionary educator in January 1957, and from the early 1960s built an international Bible-teaching ministry based first in Florida and later in Jerusalem. He was an early figure in the Charismatic Renewal of the 1960s–1970s and became briefly associated with the "Shepherding Movement" under Bob Mumford, Charles Simpson, Don Basham, and Ern Baxter — an association he later publicly repented of (1986). His final years were spent in Israel; he is buried in Jerusalem. His teaching catalog includes 50+ books and over 600 audio teaching series translated into 100+ languages; Derek Prince Ministries continues his legacy.

Prince taught salvation by grace through faith, with a strong emphasis on ongoing covenant fidelity. He treated falling away as a real possibility for the unfaithful believer, and he set that out in Faith to Live By in 1977 and in the Foundation Series. This site's tradition teaches that the believer is held in the Father's hand and does not lose that standing. The difference is over what becomes of a believer who turns away, and not over grace as the ground of salvation.
