The father watches and names plainly: “a young man lacking judgment,” “crossing the street near her corner, strolling down the road to her house”. No one forces him onto that road, so the chapter charges the walking itself, and the failing it names is a lack of judgment.

The time words stack up, twilight, the fading day and the dark of the night. Barnes reads the gathering gloom as a picture of night falling over the young man's life. Job 24:15 says the eye of the adulterer watches for twilight.
