A wisdom psalm addressed to all peoples, low and high together: a dark saying opened upon the harp. They that trust in wealth cannot by any means redeem a brother ('the redemption of their life is costly') for wise and foolish alike perish and leave their wealth to others; man in honor abideth not, like the beasts that perish. Sheol is their shepherd. But one line breaks the gloom: 'God will redeem my soul from the power of Sheol; for he will receive me.' Be not afraid when one is made rich; he carries nothing away.
