Zophar's second and final speech, provoked and unrepentant. His premise is ancient and absolute: 'the triumphing of the wicked is short, and the joy of the godless but for a moment' (20:5). Though he mount up to the heavens, he shall perish for ever; the eye that saw him shall see him no more. Though wickedness be sweet in his mouth and he hide it under his tongue, his food is turned in his bowels to the gall of asps: 'he shall suck the poison of asps.' He swallowed down riches and shall vomit them up again; 'the heavens shall reveal his iniquity.' Then Zophar falls silent for the rest of the book.
