1. Ezekiel 9:2

   And I saw six men coming from the direction of the Upper Gate, which faces north, each with a weapon of slaughter in his hand. With them was another man clothed in linen who had a writing kit at his side. And they came in and stood beside the bronze altar.

And there was one man among them clothed in linen, with a scribe's inkhorn at his side. They went in and stood beside the bronze altar. And the glory of the God (Vulgate: Lord) of Israel went up from the cherub on which it rested to the threshold of the house. And he called to the man clothed in linen, who had the scribe's inkhorn at his side.

   “Et ecce sex viri venientes e via portae superioris quae est e regione aquilonis: et cuique instrumentum mallei sui in manu sua: et vir unus in medio ipsorum vestitus lineis, et atramentarium scribae in lumbis ejus: et venerunt, et steterunt e regione altaris aenei. Now the Prophet writes that God's command was not vain or empty, because the effect appears directly by vision.

2. Ezekiel 9:3

   Then the glory of the God of Israel rose from above the cherubim, where it had been, and moved to the threshold of the temple. And He called to the man clothed in linen who had the writing kit at his side.

And he called to the man clothed in linen, who had the scribe's inkhorn at his side.

   “God--which had heretofore, as a bright cloud, rested on the mercy seat between the cherubim in the holy of holies (2Sa 6:2; Ps 80:1); its departure was the presage of the temple being given up to ruin; its going from the inner sanctuary to the threshold without, towards the officers standing at the altar outside, was in order to give them the commission of vengeance.

3. Ezekiel 9:11

   Then the man clothed in linen with the writing kit at his side reported back, “I have done as You commanded.”

   “And, behold, the man clothed with linen, which had the inkhorn by his side,.... Eze 9:2; to whom the orders were given to mark the mourners in the city, Eze 9:4. The Syriac version is, "then I saw the man", &c. which must direct him to observe and call to mind the distinguishing goodness of God to his own people: reported the matter, saying, I have done as thou hast commanded me; meaning that the righteous were marked, and had been preserved, while the others were slain.

   “(Verse 11) And behold, a man who was clothed in linen, who had a writing utensil at his waist, answered saying, 'I have done as you commanded me.' LXX: And behold, a man who was clothed in a long robe and had a belt around his waist, answered and said, 'I have done as you commanded me.' He is the man who was commanded to pass through the midst of Jerusalem and put a mark on the foreheads of the men who sigh and cry over all the abominations that are done within it.
