1. Nehemiah 3:1

   At the Sheep Gate, Eliashib the high priest and his fellow priests began rebuilding. They dedicated it and installed its doors. After building as far as the Tower of the Hundred and the Tower of Hananel, they dedicated the wall.

2. Nehemiah 12:39

   over the Gate of Ephraim, the Jeshanah Gate, the Fish Gate, the Tower of Hananel, and the Tower of the Hundred, as far as the Sheep Gate. And they stopped at the Gate of the Guard.

The gate which led to the tribe of Ephraim, where that tribe formerly dwelt, see Neh 8:16 and above the old gate; of which mention is made, Neh 3:6 and above the fish gate, and the tower of Hananeel, and the tower of Meah, even unto the sheep gate; of all which see Neh 3:1, and they stood still in the prison gate; which was not a gate of the city, but of the court of the prison, Neh 3:25, which was near both the king's palace and the temple, see Jer 20:1.

   “It also contained the temple which was hallowed by the manifestation of His presence, and anew set apart to His service. It was on these accounts that Jerusalem was called "the holy city," and by this public and solemn act of religious observance, after a long period of neglect and desecration, it was, as it were, restored to its rightful proprietor.

3. Jeremiah 31:38

   “The days are coming,” declares the LORD, “when this city will be rebuilt for Me, from the tower of Hananel to the Corner Gate.

   Then it continues, "to the corner gate." It is made a corner lest any true justice or any certain victory be thought demonstrable in this world. And the corner gate itself, though it may be "in the east," whence the light originates, is nevertheless called "horse gate," this to teach us that we need to ride and to fight, so that we may deserve to hear with the Lord, "You mounted your horses and the salvation of your chariot."

   “Behold, the days come, saith the Lord,.... The word come is not in the text; it is read, but not written. The vowel points are in the text, but not the letters; which those, who are against the antiquity of the points, would do well to consider; since the Jews never suffered any additions to the Bible.

4. Zechariah 14:10

   All the land from Geba to Rimmon south of Jerusalem will be turned into a plain, but Jerusalem will be raised up and will remain in her place, from the Benjamin Gate to the site of the First Gate to the Corner Gate, and from the Tower of Hananel to the royal winepresses.

   “Geba - The north boundary of the land. Rimmon - The south boundary of Judea. Jerusalem - Which taken mystically, is the church of Christ, and by the repair of all to this Jerusalem, is shadowed out of the compleat building of the church on all sides, north, south, west and east.

   “The same as Ephraim's gate, the north boundary of the city (2Ki 14:13). the first gate--west of the city [GROTIUS]. "The place of," &c. implies that the gate itself was then not in existence.
