1. Genesis 1:6–8

   And God said, “Let there be an expanse between the waters, to separate the waters from the waters.”

   “And God said, Let there be a firmament - Our translators, by following the firmamentum of the Vulgate, which is a translation of the στερεωμα of the Septuagint, have deprived this passage of all sense and meaning. The Hebrew word רקיע rakia, from רקע raka, to spread out as the curtains of a tent or pavilion, simply signifies an expanse or space, and consequently that circumambient space or expansion separating the clouds, which are in the higher regions of it, from the seas, etc., which are below it.

2. Genesis 1:14–17

   And God said, “Let there be lights in the expanse of the sky to distinguish between the day and the night, and let them be signs to mark the seasons and days and years.

3. Genesis 1:20

   And God said, “Let the waters teem with living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth in the open expanse of the sky.”

5. Daniel 12:3

   Then the wise will shine like the brightness of the heavens, and those who lead many to righteousness will shine like the stars forever and ever.
