The Lenses

A lens is one kind of pattern traced across the whole Bible. This page lists every lens the site keeps, grouped into five families, and each one opens onto its own catalogue of finds with a door from every find into the verse it stands on.

Go straight to Typology. People, events and institutions in the Old Testament that point ahead to Christ, led by the places the New Testament says so itself.

Summary

Each lens here traces one pattern across the whole Bible, and the count on its door says how much of that pattern the page shows. Some are read from the text itself, some are approved by hand, and the contested ones carry the case against them at the door.

  • The New Testament quotes the Old Testament outright 276 times.
  • Romans quotes the Old Testament more than any other book, 52 times.
  • Psalms is quoted more than any other book, 72 times.
  • 1,153 words appear six times or fewer in the whole Bible.
  • 104 artifacts and inscriptions are keyed to the passages they touch, each one graded.

Each of the 13 lenses is its own page, and every row on it opens the verse it stands on.

The quotation, formula and rare-word lenses are read from this site's own index of the text. The structures and typology lenses show only what has been approved by hand. The evidence lenses carry a graded find with the work it was published in, and every cited work stands in the sources registry.
