How does the angel know that Abraham fears God? Because he obeyed instantly, when it didn't make sense, when it was painful, and with no promise of benefit, he went the distance.
The Test to Determine if You Really Fear God (blog article), 2021
Genesis 22:12 “Do not lay a hand on the boy or do anything to him,” said the angel, “for now I know that you fear God, since you have not withheld your only son from me.” BSB
He probably did 99 percent of what he was told to do. Yet God called his nearly complete obedience—rebellion (1 Sam. 15:23)!
The Fear of the Lord (excerpted in Charisma Magazine, "Partial Obedience Is Disobedience"), 1997
1 Samuel 15:23 For rebellion is like the sin of divination, and arrogance is like the wickedness of idolatry. Because you have rejected the word of the LORD, He has rejected you as king.” BSB
The difference between sand and rock is far more subtle than you may think—one is simply small particles of the other, conforming to whatever presses against it.
Matthew 7:24–27 Therefore everyone who hears these words of Mine and acts on them is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain fell, the torrents raged, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because its foundation was on the rock. But everyone who hears these words of Mine and does not act on them is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. The rain fell, the torrents raged, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell—and great was its collapse!” BSB
We should not go to a brother who has offended us until we have decided to forgive him from our hearts—no matter how he responds to us.
Matthew 18:15 If your brother sins against you, go and confront him privately. If he listens to you, you have won your brother over. BSB
When we hear God's Word and do not do it, we deceive our own hearts!
The Fear of the Lord (excerpted in Charisma Magazine, "Partial Obedience Is Disobedience"), 1997
James 1:22 Be doers of the word, and not hearers only. Otherwise, you are deceiving yourselves. BSB

The King Is Coming
most recent — Bevere on Jesus' Second Coming
Bevere's mature articulation of eschatological expectancy as load-bearing dimension of Christian life. The thesis that the believer is to live actively expecting Christ's return integrates fear-of-the-Lord, holiness, and eschatology into a single discipleship frame. Pastor Marc has flagged this as highly influential and shaping his own posture.
