- Genesis 48:15
Then he blessed Joseph and said: “May the God before whom my fathers Abraham and Isaac walked, the God who has been my shepherd all my life to this day,
Commentary on Genesis 48:152 voices
And he blessed Joseph,....
John Gill· Exposition of the Old Testament (1748-1763)Reformed
He blessed Joseph - The father first, and then the sons afterwards. And this is an additional proof to what has been adduced under Gen 48:12, of Jacobs superiority; for the less is always blessed of the greater. The God which fed me all my life long - Jacob is now standing on the verge of eternity, with his faith strong in God.
Adam Clarke· Commentary on the Bible, 1832Evangelical
- Genesis 48:16
the angel who has redeemed me from all harm— may He bless these boys. And may they be called by my name and the names of my fathers Abraham and Isaac, and may they grow into a multitude upon the earth.”
Commentary on Genesis 48:162 voices
The Angel which redeemed me from all evil, bless the lads,....
John Gill· Exposition of the Old Testament (1748-1763)Reformed
The Angel which redeemed me from all evil - המלאך הגאל hammalac haggoel. The Messenger, the Redeemer or Kinsman; for so גאל goel signifies; for this term, in the law of Moses, is applied to that person whose right it is, from his being nearest akin, to redeem or purchase back a forfeited inheritance. But of whom does Jacob speak?
Adam Clarke· Commentary on the Bible, 1832Evangelical
