John Stephen Piper (born January 11, 1946) is an American Reformed Baptist theologian, pastor, and author. Educated at Wheaton College (B.A. literature, 1968), Fuller Theological Seminary (B.D., 1971), and the University of Munich (Th.D. New Testament, 1974, under Leonhard Goppelt), Piper served as a professor of biblical studies at Bethel College (Minnesota, 1974–1980) before a 33-year senior pastorate at Bethlehem Baptist Church (Minneapolis, MN, 1980–2013). He is the founder, senior teacher, and chancellor of Desiring God (desiringgod.org, 1994–present) and Bethlehem College and Seminary (since 2009). His book catalog runs to 60+ titles, with Desiring God: Meditations of a Christian Hedonist (1986, multiple revisions) the signature work, joined by The Pleasures of God (1991), Future Grace (1995), Don't Waste Your Life (2003), Counted Righteous in Christ (2002, justification defense), The Future of Justification (2007, response to N.T. Wright), and Brothers, We Are Not Professionals (2002).
