Full Isa 7:14 ("Behold, a virgin shall conceive") with Matt 1:18–25 and Luke 1:26–38. Isaiah's almah (עַלְמָה) is rendered parthenos (παρθένος, virgin) in the LXX; both Gospels cite the LXX reading. The two infancy narratives together establish that Jesus is Davidic by adoption (Joseph) and Davidic by blood (Mary), the genealogical puzzle and the virgin birth solve each other.
