- Joshua 15:7
Then the border went up to Debir from the Valley of Achor, turning north to Gilgal, which faces the Ascent of Adummim south of the ravine. It continued along the waters of En-shemesh and came out at En-rogel.

And the border went up towards Debir,....
John Gill· Exposition of the Old Testament (1748-1763)Reformed
Everyone, therefore, who wants to enter into the portion of the children of Judah must first pass through the Salt Sea. That is to say, he must surmount the waves and billows of this life and escape from all things in this world that, by virtue of their own uncertainty and hazardousness, are compared with the waves of the sea. Then he may be able to reach the land of Judah and to approach the fountain of the sun. But what is the fountain of the sun, or of which sun?
Origen of Alexandria· HOMILIES ON JOSHUA 19.4, 253Patristic
- Joshua 18:17
From there it curved northward and proceeded to En-shemesh and on to Geliloth facing the Ascent of Adummim, and continued down to the Stone of Bohan son of Reuben.
Commentary on Joshua 18:172 voices
And was drawn from the north,.... Turning northward, and looking that way from the west to the east: and went forth to Enshemesh; or the fountain of the sun, see Jos 15:7, and went forth toward Geliloth; called Gilgal, Jos 15:7, which is over against the going up to Adummim; a place between Jerusalem and Jericho, see Jos 15:7, and descended to the stone of Bohan the son of Reuben; see Jos 15:6.
John Gill· Exposition of the Old Testament (1748-1763)Reformed
En-shemesh - The fountain of the sun; a proof of the idolatrous nature of the ancient inhabitants of this land. Geliloth - As the word signifies borders or limits, it is probably not the proper name of a place: And went forth towards the Borders which are over against the ascent to Adummim.
Adam Clarke· Commentary on the Bible, 1832Evangelical
