Ziklag was also given to the tribe of Simeon, Jos 19:5, it was in the bands of the king of Gath, in the times of David, who gave it to him; it bordered on the Amalekites, and is placed by Jerom (c) in Daroma, on the south of the lot of Judah or Simeon. and Madmannah, according to the same writer (d), was in his time called Menois, a town near the city Gaza: and Sansannah, of which no mention is made elsewhere. For it is evident concerning Ziklag, one of them, that it was in the Philistines hands in David's time, and by them given to him, and by him annexed to the tribe of Judah, 1 Sam. xxvii, 6.

Unto the reign of David - It is not quite clear why this clause is added. Perhaps the writer is quoting from a document belonging to Davids reign. Or, he may mean that some of the cities, as Ziklag 1Sa 27:6, were lost to Simeon about Davids time.
