Study resource: not Scripture

R. H. Charles translation (1917) · public domain

The book written by Enoch—[Enoch indeed wrote this complete doctrine of wisdom, (which is) praised of all men and a judge of all the earth] for all my children who shall dwell on the earth. And for the future generations who shall observe uprightness and peace.

This verse’s chapter, studied

The Book That Judges the Whole Earth

Enoch names his own writing as a book meant for his children and for future generations who will "observe uprightness and peace." He tells them not to be troubled by hard times, because the Holy and Great One has already appointed days for everything. He promises that the righteous will rise from sleep to walk in eternal light, while sin itself will vanish into permanent darkness.

  • Genesis 18:25 : "a judge of all the earth" echoes Abraham's own phrase for God in his plea over Sodom.
  • Daniel 12:2 : the righteous one who shall "arise from sleep" and "walk in eternal light" reaches for the same resurrection hope Daniel states directly.
