And when I had gone forth below and seen the heaven, and the sun rising in the east, and the moon setting in the west, and a few stars, and the whole earth, and everything as He had known it in the beginning, then I blessed the Lord of judgement and extolled Him because He had made the sun to go forth from the windows of the east, and he ascended and rose on the face of the heaven, and set out and kept traversing the path shown unto him.

The Earth Swallowed in a Dream
Enoch begins recounting two visions seen before his marriage, starting with a terrifying dream of the heaven collapsing onto the earth, which is then swallowed into a great abyss along with its mountains and trees. His grandfather Mahalalel wakes him and names the dream a true sign that the earth "must sink into the abyss and be destroyed" for the sin upon it, and urges Enoch to pray that a remnant survive. Enoch prays, then rises to see the ordinary world still standing and blesses God for it.
- Isaiah 10:21 : "The remnant shall return, even the remnant of Jacob" — the same preserved-remnant hope Mahalalel urges Enoch to pray for.
- Romans 11:5 : Paul's "remnant according to the election of grace" carries the same instinct into the New Testament: judgment on sin that still spares a seed.
