Counting the Moon Down to Nothing
Enoch records mysterious names given to the sun and the moon, then returns to the moon's changing light in exact daily fractions: fourteen parts to full, then one fewer part each day of waning until, on the fifteenth day, "all her remaining light disappears wholly." He notes that months run twenty-nine or thirty days, and that Uriel showed him from which side the sun's light is transferred to the moon.
- Genesis 1:16 : Genesis names the two lights only by function, never by proper name: a restraint this chapter's mythic naming of sun and moon stands against.
