The number 32

Covenant, fellowship

Bullinger's Number in Scripture gives thirty-two no treatment at all; the book moves directly from thirty-one to forty. Scripture's occurrences of the number are incidental: thirty-two thousand virgin women taken as spoil after the war on Midian (Numbers 31:35), and thirty-two kings allied with Ben-hadad of Syria against Ahab (1 Kings 20:1). Neither passage assigns the number symbolic weight. The label 'covenant, fellowship' traces to Ed F. Vallowe's Biblical Mathematics (1998); it has no Bullinger source and no verse behind it. Present it to readers plainly as later derivative tradition, not as a pattern scripture teaches.

The mathematics

32 = 2⁵, the smallest fifth power above one.
Almost perfect: its divisors 1 + 2 + 4 + 8 + 16 come to 31, exactly one short of the number itself. Every power of two does this, and no other number is known to.
