Three different numbers stand on this page, and each is counted its own way. The band at the top counts entries, meaning headwords in Strong’s Exhaustive Concordance (1890), which is where the H and G numbers come from. The number under a letter counts the headwords whose unpointed spelling begins with that letter. The number on an entry card, written with a times sign, counts occurrences in the STEP Bible tagged Hebrew and Greek text (STEPBible.org, CC BY 4.0), once for each tagged word. Other tools count occurrences under other rules and report other honest numbers.
