Sir Robert Anderson

Sir Robert Anderson (May 29, 1841 – November 15, 1918) was an Irish-born British barrister, intelligence officer, Assistant Commissioner of the London Metropolitan Police (1888–1900), and prolific evangelical author. Born in Dublin to a Presbyterian-Anglican family, he was converted as a young man and aligned with the Plymouth Brethren tradition while remaining functionally Anglican. His Scotland Yard career included supervision of the unsolved Jack the Ripper investigation (1888). He authored 20+ books on prophecy, biblical theology, Christology, and Christian apologetics; *The Coming Prince* (1894) is the standard 19th-c. evangelical articulation of Daniel's 70-Weeks prophecy and remains the foundational reference text for the framework Missler, Lindsey, Hagee, and contemporary dispensational teachers built upon.

• Rapture Timing — Pre-tribulation rapture, pre-millennial — the 70th week is the future tribulation; the church is removed before its commencement. Anderson's framework is foundational dispensational architecture.
• Cessation — Functionally cessationist in the 19th-c. Brethren-evangelical mainstream. Anderson does not engage modern continuation/cessation debates (post-dates him).
• Typology Method — Old Testament types — particularly the Levitical priesthood, sacrificial system, and tabernacle — are real, intentional, Christ-centered, and exegetically operative. *Types in Hebrews* is the load-bearing articulation.
• Antichrist Identity — The Antichrist is a future personal figure — the "prince that shall come" of Daniel 9:26 — who confirms a covenant at the start of the 70th week (the future tribulation) and breaks it at the midpoint. The framework underlies Missler / Lindsey / Hagee subsequent articulations.
• Daniel 70 Weeks Framework — The 70 weeks are 490 prophetic years (360-day years). 69 weeks (483 × 360 = 173,880 days) from Artaxerxes' decree (March 14, 445 BC) to Christ's triumphal entry (April 6, AD 32). The 70th week is future; the gap is the church age. The architectural framework for dispensational eschatology.
