The life, in order
The life told as one accountfrom this site's record
Michael J. Behe (born January 18, 1952) is an American biochemist, Professor of Biochemistry at Lehigh University (Bethlehem, PA, since 1985), Senior Fellow of the Discovery Institute's Center for Science and Culture, and one of the principal scientific architects of the Intelligent Design (ID) movement. He holds a Ph.D. in biochemistry from the University of Pennsylvania (1978). He is Roman Catholic by religious affiliation. His landmark Darwin's Black Box: The Biochemical Challenge to Evolution (1996, 2nd edition 2006) introduced the concept of "irreducible complexity" to the public-academic discourse on evolution and design. Subsequent works include The Edge of Evolution (2007) and Darwin Devolves (2019). He testified for the defense in the 2005 Kitzmiller v. Dover Area School District trial — a substantial public moment in the ID-vs-mainstream-science debate. The Lehigh University biology department posted a public position-statement (2005–2024) distancing itself from Behe's ID views — Behe is unique on faculty in holding ID positions.

Darwin Devolves: The New Science About DNA That Challenges Evolution
2019
Behe's mature articulation of the genetic-molecular case for ID, drawing on post-Genome-Project research.
