Lee Patrick Strobel (born January 25, 1952) is an American journalist-turned-evangelical-apologist. He earned a journalism degree from the University of Missouri (1974) and a Master of Studies in Law from Yale Law School (1979). He was the legal-affairs editor at the Chicago Tribune through the 1970s and early 1980s. An atheist by formation, his conversion (1981) followed a roughly two-year personal investigation prompted by his wife Leslie's prior conversion. He served as teaching pastor at Willow Creek Community Church (1987–2000) under Bill Hybels and at Saddleback Valley Community Church (2000–2014) under Rick Warren. He founded the Lee Strobel Center for Evangelism and Applied Apologetics at Colorado Christian University in 2018, where he serves as founding director. The Case for Christ (1998) has sold over 5 million copies; his catalog overall lists 40+ books and curricula totaling roughly 18 million copies. Christianity Today and The Washington Post have described him as one of evangelicalism's most-read apologists.
