Short bio

Dr. Heidi Gayle Baker (born 1959) is an American Christian missionary, the CEO of Iris Global (Christian humanitarian and church-planting organization founded 1980 with her husband Rolland Baker), and a major contemporary voice in the charismatic missions and presence-theology streams. Educated at Vanguard University (B.A., M.A.) and King's College London (Ph.D. systematic theology, 1995), she received a defining missionary call at age 16 through an audible-voice vision while living on a Mississippi Indian reservation. After ministry in Asia and a homeless-mission church-plant in London, the Bakers settled in Mozambique in 1995 (then the poorest country on earth). Iris Global now feeds 10,000+ children daily, has founded 5,000+ churches in Mozambique, and operates schools, clinics, well-drilling projects, and orphan-care across multiple African nations. Heidi Baker is a frequent speaker at Bethel Church Redding, IHOPKC, and across the global charismatic-missions circuit.

What they believed

  • Cessation — Strong continuationist; healing, prophecy, deliverance operative in Mozambican village contexts. Documented healing testimony particularly around hearing-and-vision restoration.
  • Healing in Atonement — Affirmed; healing is operative in mission context as gospel-confirmation. Iris ministry village-outreach methodology integrates healing prayer with gospel proclamation.
  • Identity vs Performance — Christian life flows from identity-as-loved by the Father; ministry is the overflow of intimacy. Baker pairs with Bevere/Winship/Johnson ★★★ stream on identity-as-foundation.
  • Justice Frame — Justice integrated with discipleship — the gospel produces literal feeding of children, healthcare, education, water, orphan-care. Distinguishes from both mercy-without-gospel and gospel-without-mercy reductions.
  • Glory and Presence Theology — Intimacy with Jesus as foundation for all fruitful ministry. "All the fruitfulness flows from intimacy with Him, our total connection and dependence on Him." Closely aligned with Bill Johnson (Tier 1) Bethel-stream presence theology.
  • Unreached Peoples Priority — Substantive priority for unreached people groups, particularly in poverty contexts and previously-labeled-unreachable contexts. The Makua-of-northern-Mozambique focus demonstrates the framework's operational seriousness.
