Eric Metaxas (born 1963) is an American author, speaker, conservative public intellectual, and radio host. Educated at Yale (B.A. English, 1984) where he edited the Yale humor magazine Record, he worked as a writer for VeggieTales (children's animated Christian series, late 1990s) and in editorial positions before publishing his three landmark popular-biographical works: Amazing Grace: William Wilberforce and the Heroic Campaign to End Slavery (2007), Bonhoeffer: Pastor, Martyr, Prophet, Spy (2010, #1 NYT bestseller), and Martin Luther: The Man Who Rediscovered God and Changed the World (2017). Subsequent works include Miracles (2014), If You Can Keep It (2016), Seven Men / Seven Women (multiple editions), Letter to the American Church (2022), Religionless Christianity (2024), and a regular schedule of additional titles. He hosts the Eric Metaxas Radio Show, a daily nationally-syndicated program aired in 120 U.S. cities and on TBN. He has been the keynote speaker at the National Prayer Breakfast (2012). Greek Orthodox by upbringing; converted to evangelical Christianity in his early adulthood; currently identifies broadly as a Lutheran-Anglican evangelical with strong public-engagement posture.
