Charlie Kirk

Charles ("Charlie") James Kirk (October 14, 1993 – September 10, 2025) was an American conservative political activist and the co-founder (2012) and CEO of Turning Point USA (TPUSA), a 501(c)(3) student-organizing network. Raised in Wheeling, Illinois, Kirk attended Christian school in his upbringing and made a faith profession in adolescence; he attended Calvary Chapel-affiliated congregations and identified publicly as evangelical Christian. He founded Turning Point Faith (later TPUSA Faith, 2021) with Pentecostal pastor Rob McCoy as a faith-and-politics initiative for pastors and church leaders. Kirk authored multiple books on conservative politics and his theological-political integration. After 2020 his framework evolved markedly from earlier secular-conservative articulation toward what he himself and many critics characterized as Christian nationalist — including explicit rejection of strict separation of church and state, and the framing of America as "set up by and for not just Christians, but specifically Protestant Christians." He was assassinated September 10, 2025; the assassination was widely reported and remains a substantial recent moment in American public-religious-political life.

• Justice Frame — Justice framed conservatively — anti-progressive, anti-"wokeism," pro-traditional-marriage-and-family, pro-life. The framework treats progressive-evangelical justice articulations as compromised; the explicit TPUSA Faith mission of "eliminating wokeism from the American pulpit" frames this engagement.
• Sexuality and Marriage — Conservative biblical sexuality and marriage — heterosexual marriage, sexual purity, against contemporary cultural drift. Standard mainstream-evangelical conservative articulation.
• Role of Government — Government should reflect biblical-Christian moral foundations; strict church-state separation as articulated in late-20th-century jurisprudence is "fabrication." America was founded as Protestant-Christian polity. This articulation is sharply contested across evangelical streams — Christian-nationalist by self-and-critic-acknowledgment.
• Cultural Engagement Posture — Substantive engagement with American cultural-political life is integral to Christian discipleship; retreat into private piety is a failure. The framework presses for active Christian engagement in politics, education, media, and civic life. Operationally aligned with seven-mountain-mandate stream though Kirk himself was not a primary seven-mountain articulator.
• Tradition Weight — Substantial — the Protestant-Christian American founding tradition, the Reformation heritage, and broader conservative-evangelical inheritance form Kirk's controlling frame. Critics argue this is selective-tradition-reading; Kirk's framework treats American Protestant-Christian heritage as load-bearing.
