The life told as one accountfrom this site's record

Aiden Wilson Tozer (April 21, 1897 – May 12, 1963) was an American pastor, magazine editor, and author who spent his entire 44-year ministry inside the Christian and Missionary Alliance (C&MA). Born to a small farming family in La Jose, Pennsylvania, Tozer was converted as a teenager in Akron, Ohio after overhearing a street preacher. Without formal theological education he accepted his first pastorate in 1919; he later pastored Southside Alliance Church in Chicago for 31 years and Avenue Road Church in Toronto for the last four years of his life. From 1950 until his death he edited Alliance Weekly (later The Alliance Witness), the C&MA's denominational magazine. He published 12 books in his lifetime; 40+ more have been compiled posthumously from his sermons and editorials.

How to read this voice

Tozer is read for one subject, the knowledge of God himself. He wrote as a pastor, so his books move by theme and not by chapter and verse. A reader who wants a passage worked through verse by verse should go to a commentary for that. Read him a few pages at a time, because the books were built out of sermons and weekly editorials and they still read that way.

Where this voice is quoted

Where this site parts from this voice

Tozer taught a filling of the Holy Spirit that comes after conversion, in the deeper life pattern of the Christian and Missionary Alliance. This site's tradition is Wesleyan and Pentecostal. It teaches the baptism in the Holy Spirit, with the gifts of 1 Corinthians 12 in full operation today and speaking in tongues among them. Tozer did not work that out.
